OpenAI connector
OpenAI connector is a Databricks data engineering capability, introduced July 2026.
A managed Lakeflow Connect connector that uses the OpenAI Organization Admin API to ingest users, projects, API keys, usage, costs and audit logs into Databricks.
- It ingests what you spend on OpenAI, not what OpenAI says: usage, costs and audit logs, never the chat itself.
- Turning on OpenAI audit logging to feed the audit_logs table is a one-way door - switching it off again means contacting OpenAI support.
- One Admin API key with Read Only permission unlocks 20 source tables.
Limitations: Beta, enabled by a workspace admin from the Previews page. OpenAI Admin API key only (needs an Organization Owner to create), no row filtering, no data type changes, and a column rename requires a full refresh.
