Lakebase Provisioned Lakebase Autoscaling
The original Lakebase offering - a managed Postgres OLTP database instance running on compute you provisioned and scaled by hand, with one primary node for writes and optional secondaries across zones.
- One capacity unit meant a flat 16 GB of RAM, so 'scaling the database' was a number a human typed.
- Its connection hostnames were global with no region in them, so the endpoint told you nothing about where the database actually lived.
- Its restore window could be set as high as 35 days, so an instance could remember more than a month of its own past.
Limitations: Provisioned enforced workspace and instance ceilings: at most ten database instances per workspace, up to 1000 concurrent connections per instance, a 2 TB logical size limit across all databases in an instance, and no cross-workspace access, since an instance is scoped to a single workspace.
