Unity Gateway

Unity Gateway is the current Databricks name, previously Unity AI Gateway (since September 2026).

Databricks' governance solution for enterprise AI, part of Unity Catalog: the control plane over the models, MCP servers, agents, and tools an organization uses, setting permissions, rate limits, spend limits, payload logging, and safety guardrails on every request.

• The "AI" fell out of the name but not out of the address - the docs still live at /ai-gateway/, under a page now titled "AI governance with Unity Gateway". 🔗
• The rename was applied backwards through the archive - the August 4, 2026 GA blog post now announces the "General Availability of Unity Gateway", and the only place its old name survives is its own URL, which still ends in unity-ai-gateway-generally-available. 🔗
• It is big enough to have its own release-notes page apart from the platform notes, which introduces it as the enterprise control plane for governing AI cost, security, and access. 🔗

⚠ Limitations: Not supported on AWS GovCloud. Model services cannot be created or managed with SQL, discovered with only the BROWSE privilege, or found through global search, and a service accepts at most 20 rate limits, of which up to 5 can be group-specific (token-based limits do not apply to MCP services). 🔗
