Supervisor API is retired, replaced by Agent Bricks CLI (retired September 2026).
Supervisor API Agent Bricks CLI
An OpenResponses-compatible endpoint that built an agent in a single request - you supplied the model, tools, and instructions, and Databricks ran the agent loop of calling the model, executing tools, and synthesizing the answer.
- It lasted about six months - launched in Beta in April 2026 and switched off on September 30, 2026 - and the April release note that announced it now links to it as "Supervisor API (deprecated)".
- Its official replacement is homework - Databricks recommends writing your own agent loop and deploying it with the Agent Bricks CLI.
- When a request needed computation, the Supervisor wrote and ran the code itself in a sandboxed serverless session, so you never enabled, configured, or supplied it.
Limitations: While it ran, background mode requests had a maximum execution time of 30 minutes, stream and background could not both be true in one request, there was no automatic failure recovery with exactly-once guarantees, and usage tracking was not supported in the beta.
