Spaces is a Databricks developer experience capability, introduced August 2026.

An organizational tool in the Databricks editor that groups your work by focusing the editor window on a single folder or set of open tabs, preserving them so you can pick up where you left off.

• It is a folder that is not a folder: deleting a space removes the space and its saved tabs while every notebook and file inside it stays exactly where it was in the workspace. 🔗
• The selling point is not organisation but memory: each space keeps your open tabs, so switching projects stops meaning re-opening nine notebooks. 🔗
• The docs have to warn you this is "a different concept from Genie spaces" - a disambiguation against a name Databricks had already retired the month before, when Genie Spaces became Genie Agents. 🔗
