Legacy Git integration

Legacy Git integration is retired, replaced by Git folders (retired January 2024).

Legacy Git integration Databricks Repos Git folders

The original notebook-level Git support - each notebook was linked individually to a GitHub repository, branch and file path, and you committed from the notebook's own history panel.

  • Version control was a per-notebook setting rather than a property of the workspace, so a project spread across ten notebooks meant ten separate links to the same repository.
  • It sat in legacy status for over two years before removal, and the warning only appeared inside the product in November 2023, roughly two months before the feature vanished.
  • The official instructions for getting off it were not a docs page but a PDF, linked once from the removal notice.
