Genie Code is the current Databricks name, previously Databricks Assistant (since March 2026).

AI coding assistant that generates and fixes SQL and Python across notebooks, the SQL editor, and pipelines, grounded in Unity Catalog metadata.

• Unlike a generic code assistant, it reads your Unity Catalog metadata - so its SQL and Python suggestions already know your real table and column names. 🔗
• Databricks' launch blog did not introduce it as a new product but as the newest addition to the Databricks Genie family. 🔗
• You can put it on a schedule: a scheduled task runs your prompt as a full session and leaves behind a continuable chat with the results, turning recurring analysis into an unattended background job. 🔗

⚠ Limitations: Databricks warns that auto-approve is a productivity feature, not a security boundary, and says to keep it off for production data, sensitive workspaces, or shared resources; it also recommends always reviewing generated code before running it, since Genie Code can make mistakes. 🔗
