New feature Beta

Genie App Builder

Genie App Builder is a Databricks developer experience capability, introduced September 2026.

A Databricks-native tool that builds Databricks apps from natural-language prompts, directly in the Databricks UI, inside an App Space that governs who can create apps, how they are shared, and what permissions they have.

  • You never touch a framework yourself, yet there is one underneath - every app it writes is built on Databricks AppKit.
  • Deployed apps nap when nobody is looking - they scale to zero when idle, and anything kept in memory or on local disk is forgotten when they do.
  • The preview toggle an admin flips to turn it on does not say Genie App Builder at all - it is called Governed agentic app-building.

Limitations: Beta only in selected AWS and Azure regions, and it needs partner-powered AI features on. Apps built in App Spaces have no general public internet egress - outbound access is limited to the workspace and Databricks-managed npm/PyPI proxies, custom package repositories are not supported, and workspace Secure Egress Gateway and serverless Private Link configurations do not apply.
