DBRX
DBRX is retired, replaced by Meta-Llama-4-Maverick (pay-per-token) or a comparable model on provisioned throughput (retired December 2025).
Databricks' own open mixture-of-experts large language model family, served through Foundation Model APIs as DBRX Instruct (a fine-tuned chat model on pay-per-token endpoints) and DBRX Base (a pretrained model on provisioned throughput).
- It was home-grown: the launch note calls DBRX Base and DBRX Instruct state-of-the-art mixture of experts language models trained by Databricks, not a partner model on loan.
- The raw pretrained sibling was never on the pay-per-token menu - DBRX Base only ever ran on provisioned throughput endpoints, and only in a limited set of regions.
- When function calling reached Public Preview in June 2024, DBRX Instruct was one of just two pay-per-token models it worked with.
