A no-cost, serverless-only edition of the Databricks platform for students, educators, and hobbyists to learn and experiment - notebooks, SQL, dashboards, ML models, and AI apps in a single quota-limited workspace.
- It runs serverless-only with hard quotas - blow past them and the whole workspace shuts down for the rest of the day (or month, in extreme cases), though your data survives the timeout.
- Verifying your identity through LinkedIn unlocks perks the base tier withholds - limited GPU compute and outbound internet access.
Limitations: Serverless-only and heavily capped: one 2X-Small SQL warehouse, at most 5 concurrent job tasks, up to 3 apps (auto-stopped after 24 hours), no GPUs or provisioned throughput by default, no R or Scala, no SSO/SCIM, a single workspace/metastore per account, and non-commercial use only; exceeding a quota shuts the workspace for the rest of the day.
