SQL Warehouse

SQL Warehouse is the current Databricks name, previously SQL Endpoint (since June 2022).

SQL-optimized compute that powers Databricks SQL.

• The serverless flavor spins up in seconds - typically 2 to 6 - where a classic warehouse takes several minutes (around four) to start. 🔗
• Databricks can't agree with itself on when the rename happened: the SQL warehouse page says 2023, a year after the release notes logged the name change on June 23, 2022, explaining that a warehouse is more than just an API entry point. 🔗
• There is a panel devoted to answering 'why is this thing still awake?' - color-coded annotations say whether a warehouse is held open by query activity, queries still fetching, open sessions, or plain idling. 🔗

⚠ Limitations: The maximum number of queries in a warehouse queue is 1000 for all warehouse types, and pro/classic SKUs have a fixed limit of one cluster per 10 concurrent queries. 🔗
