Serverless workspaces

Serverless workspaces is a Databricks compute / bi capability, introduced January 2026.

A workspace preconfigured with serverless compute and default storage - a fully managed SaaS experience with no compute or storage running in your own cloud account.

• Nothing runs in your cloud account - compute and storage live entirely on Databricks' side, making it the closest thing to a pure-SaaS Databricks (and the reason your negotiated cloud discounts don't apply). 🔗
• It reached GA in January 2026 after a Public Preview that opened in August 2025. 🔗

⚠ Limitations: A serverless workspace must be in a region that supports serverless compute, and because serverless compute and default storage aren't deployed in your own cloud account, cloud-provider credits or discounts don't apply to that usage. 🔗
