Lakehouse Real-Time

Lakehouse Real-Time is a Databricks compute / bi capability, introduced June 2026.

A serverless compute engine for low-latency, high-concurrency analytical queries, delivering sub-second SQL reads directly on Unity Catalog Delta and Iceberg tables.

  • It delivers sub-second queries straight off Delta and Iceberg tables - no separate serving database required - powered by a brand-new engine codenamed 'Reyden.'
  • It is in Beta for select read-only workloads - you contact your account team to switch it on.

Limitations: Supports read (SELECT) queries only - no writes, DDL, GRANT/REVOKE, or Delta maintenance commands - and doesn't support Genie, Genie Agents, or Jobs tasks. Only managed Delta and Iceberg tables, materialized views, streaming tables, and metric views are supported, so system, Delta Sharing, UC default-storage/external, Hive metastore, foreign/federated, temporary, and raw-file-format tables are excluded, as are the ADBC/ODBC/Go drivers, GEOGRAPHY/GEOMETRY types, AI functions, Python UDFs, ABAC, serverless network controls, and the compliance security profile.
