Job compute

Job compute is the current Databricks name, previously Automated Clusters (since February 2020).

Automated Clusters Job compute

Compute created to run a single job and shut down when it finishes, billed at the cheaper job rate rather than the all-purpose one.

  • Databricks arrived at this name twice. It was the original wording, was replaced in 2019 by a name describing the billing rate, and came back six months later.
  • The noun changed without ceremony. The 2020 rename produced Job Clusters, and the docs now say job compute throughout, with no release note ever marking the switch.
