The per-workspace metastore that catalogs tables and views within a single workspace, predating Unity Catalog.

• It scopes every table and view to a single workspace, and those tables still appear under a top-level catalog called hive_metastore. 🔗
• Databricks accounts created after December 18, 2025 have no access to it, alongside DBFS root and mounts and no-isolation shared compute, all off by default. 🔗
