Disable legacy features

Disable legacy features is a Databricks data governance capability, introduced August 2025.

An account setting that provisions new workspaces without access to the old way of doing things - no DBFS root or mounts, no Hive metastore, no no-isolation shared clusters, and no runtime older than 13.3 LTS.

  • It is a single switch that turns off four separate things, three of which this site already tracks as legacy or deprecated, which makes it the closest Databricks has come to shipping a rebricked button.
  • The setting has already outlived its own usefulness for new customers. Accounts created from mid-December 2025 onward cannot see it, because they never get the legacy features in the first place.
