Databricks Marketplace
Databricks Marketplace is a Databricks data governance capability, introduced June 2022.
An open exchange where providers publish datasets, AI models, notebooks, apps, and Model Context Protocol servers that Databricks customers discover, evaluate, and connect with directly from their workspace.
- Under the storefront it is just sharing - Marketplace uses OpenSharing for secure data exchange, the same open protocol behind any other Databricks share.
- Databricks unveiled it at the 2022 Data + AI Summit as 'available in the coming months' - an open marketplace for data and analytics assets with no vendor lock-in - then took the better part of a year to actually ship the preview.
- At GA it started listing AI models, not just data, letting Databricks pitch it as the only marketplace for data, analytics, and AI in one place.
